Bodegas

Lustau is proud to offer a wide range of the best quality Sherries.  The range comprises more than forty wines originating from the three towns which make up the Sherry Triangle: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
In Jerez and El Puerto de Santa María, Lustau owns bodegas, whilst in Sanlúcar our Manzanilla is housed in the bodega of Don Manuel Cuevas Jurado, an  “almacenista”, with whom we enjoy an excellent personal and professional relationship. This makes us the only company in the area which produces wines from the entire Sherry Triangle.

Most of our butts or “botas” (American oak barrels with a storage capacity of 500 litres) are located in Jerez de la Frontera. The Lustau bodega complex “Los Arcos” comprises six ageing bodegas, dating back to different periods in the 19th Century, and is located in the city centre. The complex occupies more than 20.000m2.

These bodegas initially belonged to different companies and over the course of history they have passed from hand to hand until finally they became the new home of Lustau.
Considerable restoration work was carried out, always respecting the original architecture. It took more than three years to restore the buildings to their former glory and to transfer the 15.000 barrels from our old facility at Plaza del Cubo.
These bodegas are cathedral-like with lofty ceilings up to 14 meters (46 feet) high and immaculate sand floors which we sprinkle with water periodically to provide the wines with the best conditions of temperature and humidity. These two  elements, together with the magnificent work of our foreman and his team, make our bodegas the ideal place to age sherries in the traditional way.  They are also real temples in which to contemplate the immensity of the arcades while sipping a glass of sherry - a unique and unforgettable experience.

We age our renowned Puerto Fino in El Puerto de Santa Maria near the mouth of the Guadalete River. The proximity of the sea provides ideal conditions of humidity for the development of the yeast or “flor” on the surface of this Fino .  This is why the “finos” of this town have enjoyed an excellent reputation throughout the history of Sherry.

Sanlúcar de Barrameda is the source of Manzanilla. The micro-climate which the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and the Atlantic breeze provide give this wine the saline character and finesse that make it distinct.

Manuel Cuevas Jurado is responsible for ageing the barrels of this singular wine at his ancient wine cellar in the street known asTrabajaderos . There, time seems to go by more slowly and tasting a glass of Manzanilla at his cool, shady patio is a true pleasure.
