Lustau enjoys a prestige, international reputation, forged over the years by the effort we have put behind producing high-quality wine and the widest range of Premium Sherry wines.
This way of understanding our business, combined with our passion and our way of making wines, has been demonstrated for decades by the numerous awards and prizes from the most renowned international wine competitions around the world, lending our our wines recognition around the world.
It would be impossible to mention all the medals and awards our wines have won but it should be emphasized that in the last years the number of prizes has risen constantly.
On home ground in Spain, Lustau was acknowledged as the Top Food & Wine Company in the export sector by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The lengthy international history of our bodega, our presence in the best restaurants and wine cellars around the world and our impeccable quality were all taken into consideration as merits for this award.
Our wines have triumphed in various Spanish wine competitions, such as Enoforum, Premios Bacchus, the International Wine Contest of Andalusia and many others.
As far as international contests are concerned our Sherry Wines have received acknowledgement in all five continents. This prestige allows us to rub shoulders with wines of such renowned regions as Champagne, Oporto, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
Amongst all the awards we would like to highlight those won at the International Wine Challenge in London, unofficially known as the “Oscars” in the world of wine. In recent years our wines have won more than 30 medals in one single edition which stresses the image of Lustau in the United Kingdom, the biggest wine-importing country in the world.
Moreover, in the 2005 edition the Lustau wines added the following trophies to the 30 mentioned medals: Best Sherry and Best Fortified Wine in the world for our Oloroso Empeatriz Eugenia and the Sherry with the best quality-price ratio for our Fino del Puerto.
In addition to these, our bodega was awarded World’s Best Producer of Fortified Wines in a ferocious competition with the wines from Madeira and Oporto. Moreover, Lustau was given the Len Evans Trophy, in recognition of being the bodega with the best performance in the last five editions of the contest.
In the 2007 edition of the competition the Lustau Puerto Fino and Oloroso Don Nuño were awarded Best Fortified Wine and Best Oloroso, respectively.
Outside the British Isles but still on our continent, we should also mention our achievement at the International Wine Contest in Brussels, where our Puerto Fino and East India won Gold Medals in 2007 and 2008 and our Moscatel Emilín the Grand Gold Medal in 1996.
Lustau has a wide presence throughout the entire United States and received a Critics’ Choice Award from the Wine Spectator magazine in 1993, 1997, 1999 and 2001.
In Asia, more specifically at the China Wine & Spirits Competition in Shanghai, the Olorosos VORS and Empeatriz Eugenia received the Gold Medal in the 2003 and 2004 editions, respectively and the East India received one of the only five Grand Gold Medals in 2006.
In view of these results, which are far from exhaustive, we can affirm that Lustau wines are “high fliers”, but not only in the figurative sense, since our Medium Dry Amontillado La Plaza Vieja, which is served on American Airlines flights, was awarded Best Fortified Wine served in Business Class at the 2007 edition of Cellar’s in the Sky, a competition organized by Wine & Spirit Magazine.
The work of all these years, focused on the production of wines, brandies and Sherry wine vinegars of the highest quality, have yielded results, and today Lustau is a flagship Sherry brand on a global level. Our aim is that these genuine and special wines continue to be closely associated with those of the best wine-producing regions of the world and become more and more known to the general public, as they already are to the world of gastronomy and wine.
