Since 1981 Lustau has selected small quantities of the finest quality sherries which have been matured by small independent producers, better known as “almacenistas”.

The almacenistas are often professionals and business people in other spheres of life who, because of their passion for sherry, decide to age sherries or Manzanillas in their small bodegas – mostly family owned. They sell their wines to friends or to the larger sherry exporters who then add these wines to their own soleras, to improve the quality.  Being an almacenista is a vocation, not just a hobby.

In the past these wines were not accessible to the consumer, until Lustau offered their selection to discerning wine drinkers. Manuel Lozano, our wine maker or “capataz”, makes the selection and Lustau bottles them, untreated, exactly as withdrawn from their soleras.

On each label of almacenista sherries we indicate the name of the producer, the style of the wine, the town where it has been matured and the number of barrels that make up the solera.  This is our way of paying homage to these artisans, so important in the history of Jerez and sherry, and yet anonymous until now.

This range comprises all the dry styles of sherry from Jerez, Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar.  They are true oenological gems.
